Diagram replication

CADMATIC CoDesigner allows project sites to synchronize their CADMATIC P&ID data over the COS network. Designers can choose between online or offline replication.

CoDesigner can be enabled from the SQL settings in the main site of the project. SQL database replication is based on standard COS object replication. Critical changes are replicated immediately, such as changes to the SQL database schema, whereas normal operations like editing a diagram are replicated within the defined replication interval.

After replication, project sites process diagram changes and synchronize their own diagram databases accordingly. The synchronization starts when a P&ID user opens the P&ID application or browses or checks out a diagram. This completes the replication process.

Administrating diagram replication

Mixed mode is not supported. Replication can be configured in the SQL Settings for P&ID Database view of Manage Project:

  • When Replicate P&I Diagrams is set to CoDesigner ON, every site has their own SQL database. If they exist on the same SQL server, they must be separate instances with site-specific names.

  • When Replicate P&I Diagrams is set to CoDesigner OFF, every site is connected to the main site's SQL database. In this case, the name of the SQL Server must be exactly same in each site. Administrator can see information about the configuration in each site when P&ID is opened.

When CoDesigner is in use, only the main site can modify the database schema. The modified schema is synchronized to replica servers when the replica administrator opens the P&ID application. Schema updates should be performed at a time when designers are not editing diagrams.

To keep the databases synchronized, diagram replication can be scheduled with a Plant Modeller Service Instance, as described in Diagram tab.

Get started with diagram replication

Complete the following steps to start diagram replication in an on-going project.

  • At the main site:

    • Open the P&ID application.

    • Verify that all satellite sites have replicated to the master.

    • In SQL Settings for P&ID Database, set Replicate P&D Diagrams to CoDesigner ON.

  • At satellite sites:

After enabling CoDesigner, if the main site modifies the SQL schema, each satellite site's P&ID administrator must open the P&ID application once to apply the change.
